About Atlas
Atlas Ocean Voyages launched in 2019 as the ocean cruise brand of Mystic Invest, the Portuguese group led by entrepreneur Mário Ferraz Ferreira, which also runs river cruises on the Douro through DouroAzul. Its first ship, World Navigator, began sailing in 2021, followed by World Traveller and World Voyager.
The ships are compact, ice-class expedition yachts carrying around 196 guests, with Zodiacs, a marina platform, a spa and an observation lounge for briefings. They are capable of polar voyages yet finished with yacht-style interiors. World Voyager is chartered to Quark Expeditions for Antarctic seasons from late 2026, and Atlas has a further ship planned later in the decade.
Itineraries combine polar expeditions to Antarctica, Greenland and the Norwegian Arctic with warm-weather voyages in the Mediterranean, Greek isles, Adriatic and Central America, often calling at smaller ports and staying late.
Because the fleet is so small, deployments shift from season to season: polar voyages run in the southern summer from about November to March, while Arctic, Northern European and Mediterranean voyages fill the months from roughly May to October.
Style, atmosphere and who sails
Atlas is relaxed, sociable and upscale without stiffness. Guests are typically in their 50s to 70s, mostly North American, many seeking adventure with comfort. Dress is casual by day and casual-elegant at night, with no formal nights. The ships’ Portuguese heritage shows in the hospitality and food, and the small size makes the crew feel like hosts. On polar voyages, expedition leaders and naturalists run landings and talks; in warmer regions, the focus shifts to culture and small ports.
