About Norwegian Gem
Norwegian Gem, from 2007, is the youngest Jewel-class ship and, like Pearl, has bowling lanes in the Bliss Ultra Lounge. Gem spent many years sailing from New York to Bermuda, the Bahamas and Canada, and it has since sailed a variety of other regions. Its mid-size layout gives you Norwegian’s Freestyle dining across several restaurants without long walks or crowds. Families will find a kids’ club and pool areas, but no large water park. It works well for travelers who want a relaxed, port-focused trip.
Best for: Travelers who want a laid-back, mid-size ship with freestyle dining on port-heavy routes.

Sailing with Norwegian
Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) built its identity on Freestyle Cruising: no fixed dinner times, no formal nights and a long list of restaurants you choose from each evening. Its big, modern ships add go-kart tracks, Broadway-style shows and The Haven, a private suite enclave. It suits independent-minded couples, groups and families who like flexibility, less so budget purists who dislike add-on charges.
