About Zaandam

Zaandam is one of Holland America’s two R-class ships, smaller and more intimate than anything else in the fleet. Delivered in 2000, she is known for a music-themed art collection that includes instruments and memorabilia from famous performers, giving her public rooms a personality of their own. Cabins and lounges are classic rather than modern, and the pace onboard is quiet, with lectures, trivia and live piano rather than splashy attractions. Her size lets her reach ports and routes the bigger ships skip, so she often sails longer voyages to South America, Canada and New England, or Alaska.

Best for: Experienced, older travelers who prefer a small, traditional ship and longer itineraries over modern bells and whistles.
