About Freedom of the Seas

Freedom of the Seas opened the Freedom class in 2006 as the world’s largest cruise ship at the time, and it debuted the FlowRider surf simulator that is now found across the fleet. The layout centers on the Royal Promenade, an indoor street of bars, cafés and shops that comes alive for parades and parties. A Royal Amplified refurbishment gave it a Caribbean-themed pool deck with new waterslides, which helps it compete with newer ships on shorter getaways. Expect a classic Royal Caribbean feel with an ice rink, a rock-climbing wall and a lively pool scene.

Best for: First-time cruisers and families who want a lively, mid-to-large ship for a short Caribbean or Bahamas escape.

Sailing with Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean is the big-ship, high-activity line: surf simulators, water slides, ice rinks and Broadway shows on some of the largest cruise ships ever built. It suits families, groups and active couples who want a floating resort and a private-island beach day, and it’s less suited to anyone who wants quiet, small ships or an all-inclusive fare.
