About Ovation of the Seas

Ovation of the Seas, the third Quantum-class ship, joined the fleet in 2016 and was first based in China before becoming a regular in Australia and Alaska. That mix suits its design: the North Star capsule and the floor-to-ceiling windows of Two70 are made for glacier and fjord scenery, and much of the entertainment is indoors. You still get RipCord by iFLY, the FlowRider surf simulator, SeaPlex and the Bionic Bar. Alaska sailings from Seattle have been a summer staple, though deployments shift from year to year, so check the current schedule before you set your heart on it.

Best for: Alaska and Australia cruisers who want a modern ship with plenty of indoor space for cool or rainy sea days.

Royal Caribbean is the big-ship, high-activity line: surf simulators, water slides, ice rinks and Broadway shows on some of the largest cruise ships ever built. It suits families, groups and active couples who want a floating resort and a private-island beach day, and it’s less suited to anyone who wants quiet, small ships or an all-inclusive fare.
