About Oasis of the Seas

Oasis of the Seas changed what a cruise ship could be when it arrived in 2009, splitting the vessel into themed neighborhoods and opening its center to the sky. Central Park, a real garden flanked by balcony cabins, sits above the Royal Promenade, and the open-air Boardwalk leads to the AquaTheater at the stern. A Royal Amplified refurbishment in 2019 added the Ultimate Abyss dry slide and Perfect Storm waterslides, so the original still holds its own against its younger sisters. Some interiors feel more dated than on Wonder or Utopia, but the layout and the scale of activities are the same.

Best for: First-time big-ship cruisers who want the full Oasis-class experience and are happy to trade the latest décor for value.

Oasis of the Seas highlights

  • Rising Tide Bar, a bar that rises and falls between decks
  • AquaTheater high-diving shows at the end of the Boardwalk
  • A zip line stretched across the Boardwalk, nine decks up
  • The Ultimate Abyss slide, added in the 2019 Royal Amplified refit

Sailing with Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean is the big-ship, high-activity line: surf simulators, water slides, ice rinks and Broadway shows on some of the largest cruise ships ever built. It suits families, groups and active couples who want a floating resort and a private-island beach day, and it’s less suited to anyone who wants quiet, small ships or an all-inclusive fare.
